EXE Printer Errors and What To Do About Them

All of us make use of hundreds of executable or EXE files everyday while working on our computers. In fact, it is thanks to these EXE files that computers can do everything that they do.  One click on an EXE file helps execute or run hundreds of lines of code to achieve a specified task such as running an application, opening a program or installing software. In addition to applications and programs, computer peripherals like printer also use EXE files extensively.

Since EXE files are present in large numbers in any PC, it is quite likely to encounter an EXE error with one file or another and this is the reason why printer-related EXE errors are no exception. Printer-related EXE errors are, however, easier to resolve than other hardware-related printer problems and can be fixed with the help of the solutions discussed in this article. This article will also provide a list of tools that will help you avoid these errors in the future.

One of the most common printer related EXE errors that you may come across is the hpcmpmgr.exe error. This error is related to the shutdown process of a PC. Whenever you attempt to shutdown the system, the hpcmpmgr.exe process may hang and result in a slowing down of the shutdown process. This error is a result of an obsolete or corrupt HP printer driver. This issue can be easily taken care of by visiting the HP website and downloading the latest version of the HP printer driver.

Sometimes, you may notice that the Windows Task Manager is reporting a high usage of CPU. This could be a result of another printer EXE file called spoolsv.exe. This error occurs due to the accumulation of temporary print spool files in the printer spool folder. These files are supposed to be deleted automatically but sometimes manage to stay in the folder. You can eliminate this problem by simply deleting the files.

Listed below are some of the recommended steps that you should take whenever you encounter XP printer issues:

  1. Always start with the basics. Make sure that the data cable of the printer is connected properly. Check the power cable as well. Lastly, make sure that the printer has been installed correctly on your PC. These may sound like common sense but not checking on these may result in printer related errors.
  2. Obsolete printer drivers are also a common reason for printer errors. Drivers that are outdated or not compatible are known to interfere with printing and cause errors while printing.
  3. An empty printer cartridge will lead to printer related errors and therefore, you must make sure that the cartridge is not empty.
  4. You may get errors if there are huge documents in the printing queue. This is a common scenario in the case of printers that are on a network and are being used by multiple computers.
  5. Malware infections may be another reason for errors ocurring during the printing process. Make sure to perform a thorough scan to locate any virus or spyware.
  6. Finally, cleaning up your Windows registry with the help of a good registry cleaning software will help get rid of any EXE errors and speed up your computer as well.
