Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2008 Review

Trend Micro released its 2008 suite, together with a new name for it - Trend Micro Internet Security Suite Pro 2008 (instead of the old PC-Cillin name and the blue pill icon). This edition bundles lots of interesting features such as identity-theft protection, Wi-Fi hot-spot verification, and PC performance tuning but you can opt for a version without these additional features at a lower price.

For either of the versions, the subscription price provides installation on up to three computers. As with most of today’s security suites it has a button to fix any problem and as well as "Scan Now" and "Update Now" buttons.

As PCmagazine discloses, installing this suite is far from being a walk in the park. Actually, the same source reveals the whole ordeal they went through trying to test this suite. Although they applied the exact same test methodology used with the other suites in this case, the process went on completely different.

Due to entrenched malware interfering with its installation process, Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2008 could not install. Not even Trend Micro's online HouseCall malware scanner, managed to remove the installation-blocker although and it cleaned up some things.

It took a few days and the reply of Trend Micro tech support, following the diagnostic logs, for the installation to be possible. But the problems would not end here. Another unstable infested system went on and on with rebooting and crashing. The Safe Mode was of no help in this respect and again Trend Micro's tech support staff was necessary to break the blue-screen cycle and submit a full scan.

PCmagazine’s tests somehow signal TIS’s vulnerability and rise the question of how would the average user deal with such a troublesome installation. Their advice if you come across any snags is to contact Trend's excellent tech support team right away.

In conclusion, Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2008 behaves quite all right with spam filtering and with malware blocking. The fact that it can scan and manage other installations remotely is also useful and the variety of features is definitely a plus. However, we can not overlook its serious and wide-ranging problems at installing and the fact that the firewall can be easily disabled by malware.
