| TrustPort Workstation Review |
The TrustPort antivirus portion comes with a distinctive mark: the
capacity to use multiple antivirus scanning engines, as licensed by the
producer. The Norman antivirus engine is installed by default, but additional ones can also be licensed and installed if necessary. An extra protection is obtained by using the "sandbox" on-demand scanning, but this will score low on performance (it's off by default). TrustPort also bares a mail scanner including an anti-spam engine (which has a blacklist/whitelist function, but which doesn't make it easy for you to add entries to either list) which puts an "X-Spam-Found" header to the suspect message. Making the firewall user-friendly (as, for example, ZoneAlarm's firewall), will take you a while. Specific rules of the application can be defined, but only manually --no learning device for applications that ask for network access seems to be available . You are given the possibility to create encrypted file archives; sign, encrypt, and decrypt files using public/private key pairs; and also create encrypted virtual disks which are merely files which can be stored anywhere, being encrypted with the algorithm and password you desire. When mounted, its behaviour is that of a regular drive, apart from the fact that all data copied to it is encrypted on the fly. On the whole, by its appearance and its price tag ($55 for one PC/year), TrustPort seems to be intended more for professionals than regular users. Still, this feature in itself may be very attractive to a user with a more professional inclination. Download TrustPort |
