Dr.Web Antivirus Review
Dr.Web Antivirus

The first application we present here is Dr.Web which supports two kinds of protections - antivirus and anti-spam –having the first portion of the product more flexible than the latter.

Dr.Web has three main core functions: the antivirus engine, the mail-scanning engine, and a task scheduler. You are no longer required to drill throughout the program's configuration menus similarly as in the case of some other programs of this sort as a number of program options are accessible just by right-clicking the tray icons.

The scanning engine, the program's designers say, is so created as it doesn't need to rescan the same files regularly. The application allows you to manage differently malware, adware, and hacking tools as they are sorted out in categories. A default action as well as a "what to do if this fails" action can be given to each type of menace.

The application allows you to leave out by default from scanning particular directories, also giving you the possibility to cease by selection scanning of objects on the local network and on removable drives. You can opt to configure the scanning engine to send e-mails or notifications if it detects anything doubtful.

Some other attributes of the application can be found just as frustrating as its relatively modest scale of protection. For example, the system tray disposes of three icons: one for the e-mail subsystem, one for the antivirus system itself, and one for the program's task scheduler. Using their own scheduler instead of Windows's native one is pretty confusing.

Another weak point would be the impossibility to control the sensitivity of the spam filter. The way suspect messages are stamped can be changed though: by default the message subject has the "[SPAM]" prefix but you can change it to suit your need..

Overall, Dr.Web is narrow in scope, though its protection can be efficient. Its range of utilization may be expended provided future improvement of the application. Download Dr.Web for FREE
