Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 has been given a big boost after receiving a new top-end government security certification. Red Hat Enterprise Linux on IBM servers now meets government security standards allowing Linux to be used in homeland security projects, command-and-control operations, and throughout government agencies that previously were limited to a select few other operating systems.

March 14 is the day Red Hat Inc.will release the next version of it’s operating system RHEL 5 (Red Hat Enterprise Linux). RHEL 5 implements a totally integrated Xen-based server and storage virtualization solution, by combining server virtualization with Red Hat's clustering support. In addition, RHEL 5 comes with a virtualization manager that should make installing and administering Xen virtual machines much easier. |

Microsoft has silently released a patch for a security vulnerability that could let Xbox 360 users run their own software or operating systems on the game console. The update fixes a bug with a tamper-protection mechanism on the Xbox 360. Hackers had discovered a way to break through the shield and run their own software, including operating systems such as Linux, on the games console. |

Mozilla Corp. today released updated versions of the Firefox browser, v1.5.0.10 and v2.0.0.2, for Windows, Mac, and Linux, in an effort to close a major security flaw called the "location.hostname vulnerability." The fix blocks hackers from being able to tamper with how websites are displayed. |
