German mobile security specialist IICS has announced what it claims is the world's first Smart Card that fits into a microSD slot. Supporting Linux-based mobile and embedded devices, the "Certgate" incorporates 2048-bit RSA encryption and 512 MB or 1 GB of user-accessible memory, the company says.

If your MTA happens to be Sendmail or Postfix, now you can use a new anti-spam filter called NEWT : Neutralize Email-Web Threats. Avinti's NEWT is very efficient against blended threat emails which make over 22% of all malware attacks.

Blended threat emails launch their attack by displaying the URL of a website which hosts malware. This way the classic antivirus email filters are bypassed and you, the user reading the poison - carrier email are still at risk.

The authors strongly believe that your job is to make the high level security policy decisions and the tools's role is to take care of the underlying details. This is a departure from your typical Linux firewall, which has traditionally required arcane implementation specific knowledge.

The Gentoo Project was forced to pull the plug on major section of it’s website as soon as they found out that the systems were vulnerable to a command injection attack. This vulnerability might let an attacker remotely execute commands on the compromised servers.

Many users trying to access Gentoo Archives and other 7 areas of gentoo.org are welcomed with a message of unavailability. The Gentoo administrators were urged to take the servers offline in order to prevent further exploits and to allow forensic analysis.

BMW AG and Siemens Corp. today became the latest customers to take
advantage of the collaboration between Microsoft Corp. and Novell that
enables IT interoperability in mixed-source environments.


As part of the five-year Microsoft-Novell agreement, announced Nov. 2, 2006, Microsoft can make subscription certificates available for customers to redeem to receive SUSE Linux Enterprise Server support services directly from Novell.

March 14 is the day Red Hat Inc.will release the next version of it’s operating system RHEL 5 (Red Hat Enterprise Linux).
RHEL 5 implements a totally integrated Xen-based server and storage virtualization solution, by combining server virtualization with Red Hat's clustering support. In addition, RHEL 5 comes with a virtualization manager that should make installing and administering Xen virtual machines much easier.

Microsoft has silently released a patch  for a security vulnerability that could let Xbox 360 users  run their own software or operating systems on the game console.
The update fixes a bug with a tamper-protection mechanism on the Xbox 360. Hackers had discovered a way to break through the shield and run their own software, including operating systems such as Linux, on the games console.
