If your MTA happens to be Sendmail or Postfix, now you can use a new anti-spam filter called NEWT : Neutralize Email-Web Threats. Avinti's NEWT is very efficient against blended threat emails which make over 22% of all malware attacks.

Blended threat emails launch their attack by displaying the URL of a website which hosts malware. This way the classic antivirus email filters are bypassed and you, the user reading the poison - carrier email are still at risk.

The Gentoo Project was forced to pull the plug on major section of it’s website as soon as they found out that the systems were vulnerable to a command injection attack. This vulnerability might let an attacker remotely execute commands on the compromised servers.

Many users trying to access Gentoo Archives and other 7 areas of gentoo.org are welcomed with a message of unavailability. The Gentoo administrators were urged to take the servers offline in order to prevent further exploits and to allow forensic analysis.

BMW AG and Siemens Corp. today became the latest customers to take
advantage of the collaboration between Microsoft Corp. and Novell that
enables IT interoperability in mixed-source environments.


As part of the five-year Microsoft-Novell agreement, announced Nov. 2, 2006, Microsoft can make subscription certificates available for customers to redeem to receive SUSE Linux Enterprise Server support services directly from Novell.
