There is a new version of the Storm Trojan on the loose, disguised as an e-postcard, but is actually recruiting zombies for a botnet. The attack arrives as a spam with the subject line, “You’ve received a postcard from a family member!” and contains links to one of several malware hosting sites.

Experts at Sophos, have discovered a Trojan horse that hides its malicious payload and infection by playing a funny Shockwave animation. The technique is certainly not new and it exploits the human desire to share humorous jokes and videos.

Internet Spyware (I-SPY) Prevention Act of 2007 - Amends the federal criminal code to prohibit intentionally accessing a protected computer without authorization, or exceeding authorized access, by causing a computer program or code to be copied onto the protected computer, and intentionally using that program or code: (1) in furtherance of another federal criminal offense; (2) to obtain or transmit personal information (including a Social Security number or other government-issued identification number, a bank or credit card number, or an associated password or access code) with intent to defraud or injure a person or cause damage to a protected computer; or (3) to impair the security protection of that computer.

The Register has a story on how malware dark force Jedi have created a trio of smartphone Trojans that send out premium-rate SMS messages from infected Symbian S60 devices.The Trojans, all members of the Viver strain, pose as utility programs for Symbian phones and have been uploaded to at least one popular file sharing site, anti-virus firm F-Secure reports.

Security expert Frank Boldewin said on his website reconstructer.org that he had recently noticed an e-mailed trojan - a type of program or message that looks benign but conceals a malicious payload - which was exploiting a Windows program known as the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS).
