The second largest file-sharing network on the internet has been severely disabled in a significant coup for the music industry's fight against piracy.  

Seven servers on the notorious 'eDonkey' network, on which millions of users illegally share music and other files, were this week shut down following orders by German courts, the International Federation of Phonographic Industry (IFPI) said.

Exploit code that targets Yahoo Messenger is out there on the Internet and this eaises the number of Yahoo Messenger Vulnerabilities &Exploits to 9 this year alone.

In a message to the milw0rm.com Web site, someone identified as "shinnai" disclosed malicious Visual Basic code that allegedly lets attackers feed any file to users of the latest version of Messenger. The exploit code successfully executes on a fully-patched PC running Windows XP SP2, shinnai said, although the effect depends on the security settings of Internet Explorer (IE)

Gregory Kopiloff has been accused of stealing sensitive financial data of hundred of users using a very simple scheme : P2P LimeWire browsing.

While most of the milion P2P users swap media files such as MP3s and movies, Kopiloff was looking for something very different : credit card numbers, financial reports, income tax returns credit reports and other documents that might give hackers enough information about a person to impersonate them.

Internet service providers (ISPs) may soon be required by Swedish law to take greater responsibility for unlawful file-sharing.An official report published on Monday - 'Music and Film on the Internet: Threat or Opportunity? - has called for internet providers to shoulder the burden of defending against breaches of copyright.

"I propose that internet providers should be required to contribute to bringing all copyright infringement to an end," wrote the author of the report, appeals court judge Cecilia Renfors.

Not long after the Harry Potter spoilers have been released on Internet, a new threat may affect the enormous financial success of the book author, JK Rowling. It won’t be a surprise to see unauthorized French translations on P2P networks soon.

Apparently there are organized groups of translators which aim to  release an unofficial French translation before the official Gallimard release, due in Oct. 26. These groups use the Internet to stay in touch and to exchange sections of the book.

US politicians charged on that peer-to-peer networks can pose a "national security threat" because they enable federal employees to share sensitive or classified documents accidentally from their computers.

At a hearing on the topic, Government Reform Committee Chairman Henry
Waxman (D-Calif.) said, without offering details, that he is considering new laws aimed at addressing the problem. He said he was troubled by the possibility that foreign governments, terrorists or organised crime could gain access to documents that reveal national secrets.

A man has been arrested under tightened anti-piracy laws in New York after allegedly recording the sci-fi blockbuster Transformers during a preview.Kalidou Diallo, 48, has been charged with unauthorized use of a video camera in a cinema.

Under upgraded legislation, he could face six months in jail and fines of up to $5,000 if found guilty.

Meanwhile, Transformers has broken 4 July US box office records with takings of $29.1m.
