The French government, owners of film and music rights and Internet service providers joined an agreement which is intended as a firm stand against illicit downloads.

Service providers will take on the responsibility of constantly warning their customers not to download files illegally. The customers who choose not to respect those warning messages will have their accounts suspended or even closed.

British and Dutch police shut down what they say is one the world's biggest online sources of pirated music Tuesday and arrested the Web site's 24-year-old suspected operator.

The invitation-only OiNK Web site specialized in distributing albums leaked before their official release by record companies, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry said.

RIAA is making a blod step by suing usenet.com saying it compares to Napster, Kazaa, P2P sharing files networks.

"Defendant provides essentially the same functionality that P2P services such as Napster, Aimster, Grokster and Kazaa did (prior to being enjoined by the federal courts) -- knowingly providing the site and facilities for users to upload  and download copyrighted works -- except that defendant goes further than even the P2P services to facilitate and encourage copyright infringement by its users," said  the lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Demonoid.com torrent website is back online after being shut down following a lawsuit threat from the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA). Apparently the threat was not enough to keep the green devil offline and on Oct 1 the site was back online even though not fully functional.

Demonoid.com, one of the most popular BitTorrent trackers has allegedly been taken offline by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA). Both the tracker and the website have been unresponsive for a few days now.

Demonoid Shut Down by the CRIAAs of now it is still unsure what exactly happened, but the popular Dutch news site nu.nl reports that the CRIA is responsible for the downtime.

Apparently, MD has been using un-ethical and illegal techniques in order to bring down P2P websites.Usually on the other end of accusations of wrongdoing, The Pirate Bay is accusing media companies of hiring hackers to sabotage, create denial of service attacks and other hacking and spamming offenses, according to its blog:
