According to Cyveillance's Latest Cyber Intelligence Report: Detection Rates for Malware are Getting Worse and Anti-Phishing Filters Detect Less than 50% of Attacks. Cyveillance, the world leader in cyber intelligence, today announced that a recent test of best-of-breed anti-virus vendors and Web browser anti-phishing filters revealed that more than half of active malware and phishing threats on the Internet go undetected, with an average detection rate of 37 percent for malware and 42 percent for phishing. This data was captured as part of Cyveillance's "2H 2008 Cyber Intelligence Report," which was issued today.

Internet security vendors were put on alert as news of a computer threat, dubbed "The Obama worm", spread across the industry earlier this week. The "Obama worm" was discovered on the network of a K-12 school and first reported by Walling Data, North America's top distributor of AVG Internet Security Products. Only on Mondays a semi-transparent image of the President's face pops up in the bottom right hand corner of infected computers. The threat is more of nuisance than a serious threat but can completely destroy a machine's ability to function.

Intego has discovered a new Trojan horse, OSX.Trojan.iServices.A, which is currently circulating in copies of Apple’s iWork 09 found on BitTorrent trackers and other sites containing links to pirated software. The version of iWork 09, Apple’s productivity suite, are complete and functional, but the installer contains an additional package called iWorkServices.pkg.

PandaLabs, Panda Security's malware analysis and detection laboratory, today revealed that almost six percent (5.77 percent) of the two million computers they scanned showed an infection by the malicious Conficker worm. The worm, which originated in China, has now extended across 83 countries, and is particularly virulent in the United States, Spain, Taiwan, Brazil and Mexico. In the U.S. alone, PandaLabs has identified at least 18,000 infected computers, although the real figure could be much higher.
