P2P Security News : NEW P2P Advertising Network Protects Users Against Lawsuits And Identity Theft

P2P Security News

ZapShares Inc. announced today the launch of the ZapShares Media Network, which for the first time allows advertisers to target 200 million people who use file sharing software (also known as "Peer-To-Peer" or "P2P" software) like LimeWire and BitTorrent. This revolutionary P2P advertising network allows advertisers the first-ever ability to reach 200 million P2P file sharing users by protecting them against lawsuits and identity theft.

"It's a completely new type of advertising," said Bernard Trest, President of ZapShares Inc. "Up until now, advertisers had no way to reach the 200 million people who use P2P software. This large pool of people is an untapped market that our advertising network has opened up to advertisers."

The demographics of P2P networks allow advertisers to target the elusive teenage and young adult customer, as 40% of P2P users are between the ages of 13-21. Additionally, 49% of P2P users are in the highly sought-after 21-35 year old age range. "P2P users represent a young, tech savvy audience with 44% of them being students, and 16% employed in the I.T. field," said Trest.

The ZapShares software scans and monitors a P2P user's computer, identifying potential security threats caused by file sharing software that could expose them to expensive lawsuits by copyright holders, or expose them and their private information to identity theft.

The ZapShares software was previously available in a free Basic version, and a PRO version for a yearly subscription fee of $19.95. The full functionality of ZapShares PRO is now available in a free advertiser-supported version, providing P2P users with complete protection against lawsuits and identity theft, while allowing advertisers to reach these users with their advertising message.

The ZapShares Media Network displays advertising in the ZapShares software alert box, which is displayed when ZapShares stops a file from being shared with other P2P users, thereby protecting the P2P user against lawsuits by copyright holders. The ZapShares software does not contain spyware and does not bombard users with pop-up type ads.

Unlike many other forms of Internet advertising, the ZapShares Media Network provides advertisers with exclusive placement in the ZapShares alert box, ensuring that ZapShares users are not barraged with multiple advertising messages at once, and providing advertisers with a higher click-through rate.

Trest says his company has big plans for ZapShares and the ZapShares Media Network: "P2P users download over 1.5 billion files every month, and over 44% of Internet traffic is P2P related. By opening up P2P users to advertising, we plan to become the Google of P2P ads."
