Identity Theft - Phishing : America Protected Campaign Provides Free Identity Theft Protection

Identity Theft - Phishing

ShieldSafe , an experienced leader in providing identity theft prevention services to consumers, today announced the launch of "America Protected," a free service that helps consumers protect themselves from identity theft at no charge. Now everyone can protect themselves from identity theft for free without having to pay a company to do it for them.

There were 10 million identity theft victims last year with losses exceeding $50 billion. The latest numbers show identity theft increasing an average of 22% each year. "It is our belief that everyone that wants to protect their identity should be able to do so easily and for free," said A.J. Prieto, President of ShieldSafe.

That is why ShieldSafe started its "America Protected" campaign. ShieldSafe helps individuals and their entire family protect themselves with the ShieldSafe fraud alert quick link and the ShieldSafe credit report quick link. The fraud alert quick link directs individuals to the initial 90-day fraud alert form. Once this form is filled out, an individual is proactively protected for 90 days with a fraud alert. An individual must fill out this simple form every 90 days in order to keep the fraud alert active.

ShieldSafe then emails the individual every 90 days to remind them to fill out this form to remain protected. The credit report quick link directs individuals to the free credit report link where individuals can view their credit report immediately. ShieldSafe then emails the individual every 12 months with the credit report quick link to remind them to get their free credit report.

When an individual becomes a victim it can become a terrible nightmare. Just ask John Harrison, a retired Army Captain, who became a victim of identity theft that exceeded $250,000 in just four months. The criminal used John Harrison's personal information to buy two cars, a Harley motorcycle, a Kawasaki motorcycle, a timeshare and open 61 credit/bank accounts. Even though the subject in his case was arrested, it still took Harrison several years and hundreds of hours to fix his credit and restore his identity. The shocking video detailing his story can be seen athttp://www.shieldsafe.com .

Technology makes people's lives easier, but it also lets those with less noble ideas commit crimes with the stroke of a keyboard and the click of a mouse. Just last week an identity thief was charged with committing the largest identity theft in American history, stealing over 130 million individuals' credit card and debit card identifiers. This individual committed a crime that the Department of Justice calls, "the single largest hacking and identity theft case ever prosecuted."

Every three seconds someone's identity gets stolen. Being proactive in protecting one's identity is the best solution. ShieldSafe provides a quick and easy solution and, best of all, it's free.
