P2P Security News

Chairman of LimeWire LLC perjured himself during his testimony before Congress; threats to national and personal security still exist. On June 25, 2009 ZapShares Inc. submitted over 150 pages of evidence pertaining to the matter before the Committee.

ZapShares Inc. publically announced today that since June 10, 2009 they have been working with the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform regarding hearings into the "Inadvertent File Sharing Over Peer-To-Peer Networks." On June 25, 2009 ZapShares Inc. submitted over 150 pages of evidence pertaining to the matter before the Committee.

"Even though the Committee today held new hearings regarding inadvertent file sharing, we strongly believe that this issue requires further investigation and on a much greater scale," said Bernard Trest, President of ZapShares Inc.

ZapShares Inc. sent letters today to Congressman Edolphus Towns, Congressman Darrell Issa, Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack, Congressman Peter Welch, Congressman Joe Barton, Congressman John Barrow, The Honorable Eric H. Holder, Jr., Attorney General, The Honorable Jon Leibowitz, Federal Trade Commission Chairman, and The Honorable Julius Genachowski, Federal Communications Commission Chairman. In the letter, ZapShares Inc. requests that an investigation be opened by additional government agencies regarding the matter being currently investigated solely by the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

ZapShares Inc. also addresses the fact that the Chairman of Lime Group LLC, the maker of the LimeWire file sharing software, perjured himself during his testimony to Congress on July 24, 2007, in his subsequent letter to Congress dated May 1, 2009, and in his testimony today.

"Even though the Committee has placed their sole focus on the LimeWire software as being the culprit for cases of P2P identity theft and threats to national security, our research indicates that LimeWire LLC is by no means the only company that should be focused on during the course of the Congressional investigation."

There is other P2P software that is even more popular than LimeWire, all of which pose risks to users. As an example provided by ZapShares Inc., on one popular website where you can download LimeWire the total number of downloads that all versions of the software have received to date is one hundred and eighty million downloads (183,255,946), whereas Ares, on one popular website where you can download Ares, has received a total of over one hundred and ninety six million downloads (196,456,226).
