Linux Security

This is the second upgrade of Djigzo open source email encryption gateway. This new release adds a Certificate Authority module that enables secure creation and distribution of certificates to customers and other email contacts. Certificates can be easily imported into any mail client.

Djigzo Email Encryption Gateway is an email server that encrypts and decrypts both incoming and outgoing email. Two encryption standards are currently supported: S/MIME and PDF encryption. Djigzo is fully open source.

Djigzo is proud to announce the second upgrade of our email encryption gateway. An important feature of this new release is a Certificate Authority module that can be used to securely send certificates to external contacts. With this new feature, setting up email encryption with external contacts no longer requires people to go through an elaborate process of getting a certificate.

The certificate can be used with all major email clients. By simply importing the certificate into an email client, S/MIME encryption between the Djigzo Gateway and external contacts is straightforward and automatic. Unlike SSL and on-line email portals, S/MIME encryption completely secures the message itself and not just the communication channel.

"S/MIME is perceived as very complex by most people, primarily because of the steps you have to go through to get a valid encryption certificate. The new Djigzo CA module eliminates most of these steps by sending you the certificate in a password protected file. All one has to do is click the file and type the password. Even if a person loses their certificate, Djigzo can be configured to keep backup copies. With the other features that Djigzo has, this makes Djigzo a user friendly email encryption product that conforms to generally accepted standards".

Djigzo Email Encryption Gateway is an email server (or "MTA") that decrypts incoming email and encrypts outgoing email. Because Djigzo is configured as a general SMTP email server, it is compatible with any existing email infrastructure. Two encryption standards are currently supported: S/MIME and PDF encryption. PDF encryption can be used as a lightweight alternative to S/MIME encryption. Because no install or download is required, this is the ultimate low threshold email encryption.

Password security is guaranteed because the randomly generated passwords are sent to recipients cell phone by SMS Text message. Djigzo is fully open source. It is available for free from the Djigzo website at http://www.djigzo.com. Sources and documentation can be downloaded for free. A VMware "virtual appliance" is also available. This virtual appliance can be used for evaluation, but it can also serve as a company's production email encryption server.

Djigzo strongly believes that the open source model provides the best value for money. More importantly, making the source code available guarantees that Djigzo clients can verify the reliability and correctness of the Djigzo product. Only software that you can verify can be truly secure.
