Third Brigade experts in server and application protection, today announced that its customers which have deployed Third Brigade Deep Security are protected from attacks that could exploit a critical remote code execution vulnerability that exists in the Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer 7 browser. An attacker who successfully exploits this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system. Trend Micro customers that have deployed the Intrusion Defense Firewall plug-in to OfficeScan 8 are also receiving this proactive protection.
"These attacks reinforce the importance of comprehensive protection at endpoints," said Bill McGee, vice president, products and technology at Third Brigade. "Proactive defense against exploits which are attacking an unpatched vulnerability prevents systems from being infected by this type of attack."
In addition to the zero-day protection capabilities provided by Third Brigade products, Third Brigade and Trend Micro Intrusion Defense Firewall customers also receive security updates with the latest rules that specifically protect against newly discovered vulnerabilities. A new security update was issued by Third Brigade on Thursday, December 11, 2008 to provide further protection against these targeted attacks which are attempting to inject malware onto systems running Internet Explorer 7.
Third Brigade Deep Security is server and application protection software that allows systems to become self-defending. Deployed on physical servers and virtual machines, Deep Security provides comprehensive protection, including intrusion detection and prevention (IDS/IPS), web application protection, application control, firewall, integrity monitoring and log inspection.
This comprehensive protection helps customers prevent data breaches and business disruptions, enables compliance and supports operational cost reductions. The Intrusion Defense Firewall plug-in for Trend Micro OfficeScan 8 is an OEM edition of the intrusion detection and prevention system (IDS/IPS) and firewall modules of Third Brigade's flagship product.
