Windows Security

Password Protect Folders, a security software program designed to lock folders with passwords on a computer, external, removable and network drives, is available for download from the Password Security web site. Password Protect Folders is a must-have program for home and business users who want to limit access to the folders containing confidential personal or work information.

Both home and business users often have to keep files and folders containing private data on a computer used by friends, relatives, or co-workers who may inadvertently delete or corrupt important files, see accounting information or other personal data.

Moreover, a laptop may be lost or stolen and criminals can get hands on confidential documents. There are two ways to solve the problem: learn all ins and outs of Windows access rights management or use a utility to set a password on folders containing private data.

Password Protect Folders is a program designed for home and business users who do not have time to learn the profession of system administrator. It is an easy-to-use program to protect folders with different passwords in Windows Explorer from the right-click menu or through the built-in intuitive user interface.

To protect a folder, the user runs the program and click on the Lock Folder button, then selects the folder to lock and a password. Password Protect Folders supports the following operating systems: Windows Vista, XP, NT, 98, ME.

Password Protect Folders was designed with data safety in mind. The program does not store any vital information like passwords in the registry or somewhere else in Windows. Even if the user has to reinstall Windows due to a system crash or a regular system upgrade, protected data are accessible after reinstalling Password Protect Folders.

Users can even plug the drive into another Windows computer, install Protect Folders and unprotect locked folders there, if they know the password used to lock the folders. There is no way to break into protected folders by connecting the drive to another computer running DOS, Linux or any other operating system as the password is always required to open locked folders.
