Tresys Technology, a provider of technology and services for customers with high security requirements, today announces it has donated hosting for the Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) upstream repository. The repository provides a central point for the development of SELinux and serves as the foundation for the integration of SELinux features into all major Linux distributions. It contains the source code and related resources for SELinux.
Tresys’ donation of hosting aims to further the growth of the vibrant community around SELinux, foster the continued development of features to make SELinux simpler to deploy and manage, and provides a location that can be used for coordination of the broader open source Mandatory Access Control (MAC) community.
Since the development of SELinux takes place in numerous locations – by individuals, companies and the National Security Agency (NSA) – the repository will help developers locate these SELinux developments, and serve to host their work on the repository site. Previously, the SELinux repository was hosted on Source Forge, and will now be provided, managed and made available by Tresys at http://userspace.selinuxproject.org/.

As part of its Information Assurance mission, the NSA is involved with the computer security research community in investigating a wide range of computer security topics including operating system security. SELinux was created by the NSA as an example of how mandatory access controls can be added into Linux.
