Antivirus : For $1 More: BigFix Sets the Price for Endpoint Protection

BigFix, Inc., today slashed the list price of its BigFix AntiThreat™ Solution Pack to USD $1 when ordered along with any other regularly priced BigFix solution pack or policy content module.

The AntiThreat Solution Pack includes BigFix AntiPest anti-spyware client, AntiVirus client, Endpoint Firewall, and Client Manager for Third Party Anti-Virus products. With leading analyst firms downgrading a point tools approach to security in favor of a holistic endpoint protection strategy, legacy enterprise anti-malware products have struggled to adapt.

BigFix says the new price reflects market realities and delivers value for their customers. The $1 BigFix price compares to list prices of up to $35 per seat per year charged by incumbent legacy security software companies. The package also includes uninstaller software that quickly and safely disposes of McAfee, Sophos, and Symantec products on PC, mobile laptop, and server computers and then efficiently installs the BigFix products without coverage gaps.

Bonfire of the Commodities

"Anti-malware tools are a commodity and its time the customer community gets the benefit of value pricing," said BigFix Chief Technical Officer Amrit Williams. "For too long, anti-malware market incumbents have gouged their customers. Why is it that nobody loves their security software provider? It's always regarded as a necessary evil. At BigFix, we want to change that."

The BigFix pricing move comes after widespread discussion within the IT security industry on changing dynamics in the endpoint protection solutions market.

In the Gartner research note, "Cost Cutting Endpoint Protection Platforms," Gartner ID Number G00154904, published February 5, 2008, Gartner Research Director Peter Firstbrook wrote, "Endpoint protection is often the single biggest software expense in enterprise security budgets.

Waning security emphasis and the softening economy will force enterprise buyers to do more with less money." Firstbrook also wrote, "The three most effective strategies for reducing cost are switching to a lower-cost provider, consolidating products and vendors, and more effective contract negotiations."

Offer Details
BigFix's $1 price for the AntiThreat Solution Pack for the first year of a three year license applies when ordered along with another full-priced BigFix product that runs on the BigFix Discovery 7 platform.

BigFix offers a wide variety of products that trigger the low AntiThreat price point, including solutions for asset inventory and management, patch management, power management, vulnerability assessment, security configuration management, software license management, data leak prevention, and more.

Current BigFix customers also qualify for the $1 AntiThreat price if they purchase a regularly priced BigFix policy module or extension to add to their BigFix solution.

In particular, BigFix suggests customers consider BigFix Power Management for this purpose as it addresses an emerging green computing opportunity for which relatively few companies have selected a solution. The offer is currently available in North America only.
