The antivirus business is a vast one and continually needs upgrading. The antivirus products must always have an independent, secure and objective source to offer detailed information regarding the functionality of such a product.
On this idea was based the collaboration between the Anti-Malware Test Lab and AV-Comparatives.org: to create a solid and advanced basis, prepared to supply the need from the area of the antivirus products.
It is the second partnership of antivirus-testing organizations happened in the last months. As the partners say, this doesn’t refer to necessarily providing products of such kind, but establishing, through a unique system of integrated tests, the efficiency of commercial antivirus software.
Besides offering users "a more comprehensive independent view of various security products", Andrea Clementi, founder of AV-Comparatives, also declared that "the partnership with Anti-Malware Test Lab will allow us to evaluate more aspects of antivirus software".
Clementi added that it is possible that this alliance not to be the only one made. If good results emerge from it, there will be further more associations with independent antivirus software-testing labs.
Sergey Ilyin, founder of Anti-Malware Test Lab, expressed his firm belief that the partnership "will act as a driving force for the development of the industry as a whole". Recognized for testing active infection treatments, antivirus heuristics, and anti-rootkit protection, the Anti-Malware Test Lab is an independent Russian test laboratory, subsidiary of Anti-Malware.ru. The foundation for the Anti-Malware Testing Standards Organization (or AMTSO) was laid in January, in Spain, when different antivirus vendors, independent testing labs, and media outlets met.
Vendors F-Secure, Kaspersky Lab, McAfee, Panda Software, Symantec, independent testing labs AV-Test.org and AV-Comparatives joined it. Unlike this organization, the alliance between Anti-Malware Test Lab and AV-Comparatives.org, gives to Anti-Malware.ru the opportunity of the sharing AV-Comparatives' test results.
